Our Beginning

In 2011, we realized our dream of constructing the barn that would become the center of our family farm. It was only the beginning as we worked to revitalize the pastures, add cross-fencing, and make improvements that would benefit the flock. We are committed to methods that preserve the land and respect the animals. From birth to butcher, we strive to provide an idyllic and stress-free environment. We are proud to offer entirely grass-fed lamb, high quality wool products, naturally tanned sheepskins and events ranging from a day on the farm to see the lambs, to yoga, to pony cart lessons. The magic of Firefly Hollow feeds the bodies and spirits of many as we are brought together by a flock of Icelandic Sheep.

Two Generations of Shepherds

Kimberly grew up raising lambs in Colorado and loves the connection to the seasons that shepherding provides. Anya is an artist whose interest in fiber arts started the flock. Alea is an equestrian who helps with events and sales. It is a family effort that ranges from caring for the flock, marketing, and managing the fiber products. The love and care that is given to each sheep can be seen in every product Firefly Hollow Farm produces. The heart of the operation is the love a shepherd feels for her flock and the deep bonds created on a family farm.

Mission and Aspirations

Our mission began with the desire to improve our family's health by only consuming meat we raised ourselves. This was the only way that we could provide the healthy Omega-3s that grass fed meat offers while knowing that the animal was honored and provided superb care for the entirety of its life. We consider it our obligation and an honor to raise the meat we eat. We grow our own hay, use rotational grazing methods to benefit the land and animals, and are committed to supporting natural ecosystems. We employ natural strategies to nurture a flock whose happiness is, and always will be, of utmost concern.

Our Journey

It was the summer of 2008 the first time we saw the fireflies. The hollow that shelters our home, and a grove of a hundred oak trees, fills with a plethora of fireflies that defies the imagination. We sat and watched as our three children, raised in Colorado without fireflies, ran joyfully amongst the flickering golden lights. To say it was magical does not do the moment justice. Little did we know that slowly we would build a family farm alongside Big Rock Creek and that together we would lessen our dependence on 'Big Ag' and the methods employed in factory farming. We would commit ourselves to raising natural food that was antibiotic, hormone and pesticide free. Like all journeys, it has had pitfalls and triumphs, but in the end, it has reconnected us to the Earth, the seasons, the plants and animals we nurture and to one another.
