Our Services

Wool
Firefly Hollow uses a local fiber mill in Northern Illinois to produce roving, corespun & yarn in an array of natural colors. Icelandic sheep wool is famous for its blend of thel and tog. The dual coated fleece is highly desirable to hand spinners and best known for creating the trademark Icelandic sweaters: Lopapeysa. We also sell limited quantities of skirted raw fleeces in the Fall especially for handspinners. So, whether you are looking to felt, spin, knit or crochet we have the perfect wool for your creative project.

Breeding Stock
our farm takes pride in offering a diverse selection of lambs, yearlings, mature ewes, and rams. Our commitment to mentoring & matching a shepherd with the right match for their flock goals. This means we work closely with each shepherd to understand their unique needs and preferences. We strive to find the perfect sheep for your farm. Our sheep are raised with care, and we are dedicated to helping you find the ideal addition to your flock.

Sheepskins
Firefly Hollow utilizes a natural, chemical-free tannery in Wisconsin to craft lamb and sheepskins that can become treasured heirlooms. Our Icelandic fleeces feature a staple length of 7"-11", compared to the typical 2"-4" found in most commercial breeds, resulting in a remarkable difference. Icelandic sheep yield a variety of uniquely soft and luxurious fleeces, ensuring that no two are the same. This makes our sheepskins a distinctive statement piece, perfect for enhancing any style as a rug, interior accent, or fashionable wearable.

Grass-Fed Lamb
Firefly Hollow Farm's 100% grass fed Icelandic lamb is antibiotic, GMO and hormone free. Our lambs are raised entirely on herbicide & pesticide-free pasture and hay we grow ourselves. It is lean, tender and flavorful. Gourmet chefs consider Icelandic lamb a delicacy & our experience is that even non-lamb eaters enjoy it due to its mild flavor. Our lamb is USDA certified & vacuum sealed for freshness. A variety of cuts are available including: chops, leg roasts, steaks, kebab, French rack, ground and more. Currently we do not ship, but delivery & pickup is available in the Chicago area.

Our dedicated shepherdesses, Kimberly & her daughters, are passionate about nurturing their flock, and sharing its beauty with you. We invite you to explore our farm and learn about the unique charm of Icelandic sheep through our products and experiences.

![This big little man turned 28 days & got a name yesterday. Malala is doing an amazing job with him. Picking him up isn’t as easy as it was a week ago! He weighed in at 41.6 which is great, but I was just as excited about his wool being unusually nice. Our last AI rams had average & below average wool so this was a nice surprise. I did look up the stats that Iceland provides on all their AI rams & learned that Austri’s rankings for fleece were quite good for a ram being bred for carcass traits.
It was decided that we’d name him Jasper in honor of his maternal grandsire who was only a number on his registration papers, DL RAM B2H 937Z -[CAN]697466, but called Jasper for his eleven years of life. He lived in upstate NY to coastal CA & left progeny spread all across the country. A ram that wasn’t a lot to look at, but whose lambs had strong dairy traits, maternal abilities & longevity. An excellent cross for sheep with high AI & a focus on carcass traits.
He passed away in 2023 & I will always be grateful I was entrusted with his last daughter. Our longtime tradition is to name ewes new to our flock after fearless females. Over the years, as my children have grown up, the names have covered everyone from female outlaws to physicists. We named Jasper’s last daughter after the Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai. She is a calm, watchful ewe, but not afraid to use her voice if she’s unhappy with something. A black grey mouflon with very distinctive eye markings. She doesn’t blend & is a good influence on the flock
Welcome Jasper! We look forward to seeing you grow. #icelandicsheep #lambsofinstagram #ramlamb #homesteadlife #shepherdess](https://scontent-den2-1.cdninstagram.com/v/t51.71878-15/670542710_1676734410415370_6693477717541594715_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_e35_tt6&_nc_cat=110&ccb=7-5&_nc_sid=18de74&efg=eyJlZmdfdGFnIjoiQ0xJUFMuYmVzdF9pbWFnZV91cmxnZW4uQzMifQ%3D%3D&_nc_ohc=UAgPYIbtcWwQ7kNvwEz4tAo&_nc_oc=AdoeXjMez5w3J8eYIhSxJWwlZ8SZX0WZdHSsNh5iRCwqo1cwRh6cbBI-gKBMtBUom-M&_nc_zt=23&_nc_ht=scontent-den2-1.cdninstagram.com&edm=ANo9K5cEAAAA&_nc_gid=7IuXrJG4CGDikpuDAvJCMA&_nc_tpa=Q5bMBQJTipZYJo32hSP8XD9rH636R7tRnFTbXTHv0zaXNi9lqYz-Ok3Hd16CgYWiAyE0SG6x6dnUqLGV&oh=00_AQE8Z1bFL_c3vJyY0fSW_2uNSGo4yTaG8NPqTpqZv7uTmQ&oe=6A9140AD)
